Vistry Group celebrates commitment to Real Living Wage

17/11/2021

Vistry Group is now an accredited Living Wage employer. This commitment by the national housebuilder will see those directly employed and third-party contracted staff paid the Real Living Wage.

The Real Living Wage is the only rate calculated according to the costs of living. It provides a voluntary benchmark for employers that wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum. Since 2011 the Living Wage movement has delivered a pay rise to over 250,000 people and put over £1.3 billion extra into the pockets of low-paid workers.

Danica McLean, group people director at Vistry, said: “We are delighted to achieve the Real Living Wage accreditation. Paying the Real Living Wage can make a real difference to people, it can mean the difference between surviving and thriving. We want to attract and retain the best people, whether they are our employees or they work for one of our contractors, and paying the Real Living Wage is the right thing to do.”

Laura Gardiner, director of the Living Wage Foundation, said: “We’re delighted that Vistry Group has joined the movement of over 9,000 responsible employers across the UK who voluntarily commit to go further than the government minimum to make sure all their staff earn enough to live on.

She added companies like Vistry recognised that paying the real Living Wage was the mark of a responsible employer and that a hard day’s work deserved a fair day’s pay.
